Unforgettably Crispy Homemade Chips

Unforgettably Crispy Homemade Chips

Serves: 4
Prep: 10 minutes • Cook: 35-45 minutes (oven) / 18-22 minutes (air fryer)

This recipe has oven and airfryer friendly instructions.

Crispy, golden, and bursting with flavour, these homemade chips are everything you’ve been craving. The Simply Seasoned Chip Perfection Blend transforms simple potatoes into crunchy, paprika-kissed bites of pure comfort, balancing warmth and savoury depth with a subtle smoky finish.

This is a nice alternative to deep frying your chips as it uses much less oil and is easier to clean up afterwards. This works really well as a side dish or as part of a larger meal.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg potatoes (Maris Piper or Rooster), washed, "de-eyed" and cut into chips. Peeling optional! (about 3.3 lb)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (30 ml)
  • 2–3 tsp Simply Seasoned Chip Perfection Blend (8–12 g), to taste
  • Fine sea salt, to finish (optional)

Method (Oven)

  • Preheat oven to 220°C (430°F).
  • Parboil chips in salted water for 6–7 minutes until the edges just soften and they are just about able to slide off of a fork. Drain and let steam-dry for 5 minutes in the collander.
  • Toss with olive oil and Chip Perfection Blend until coated evenly.
  • Spread on a hot baking tray (don’t crowd). Roast 20 minutes, flip, then roast another 15–20 minutes until crisp and golden.

Method (Air Fryer)

  • Parboil and dry as above.
  • Toss chips in olive oil and Chip Perfection Blend.
  • Air fry at 200°C (390°F) for 12 minutes, shake, then 6–10 minutes more or until crisp and golden.

Pro Tips

  • For ultra-crunchy results, try replacing the Olive Oil with Beef Tallow, it has a higher smoke point than Olive Oil and has a complimentary aroma & flavour.
  • Cook in batches if you're using a small roasting dish/airfryer to prevent soggy chips, airflow is key.

FAQ

Do I need to parboil?
Yes, parboiling helps the chips develop a fluffy interior and that perfect golden crust.

Can I use this recipe for sweet potatoes?
You can, but reduce the parboiling time to prevent them going too mushy, and put a half  teaspoon of baking soda in to make the exterior a bit more rough to help it crisp up. Try to be a bit more conservative with the amount of seasoning because they have a naturally sweet flavour already. Keep an eye on them more while cooking, because they brown faster due to natural sugars.
